Time out!

"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play! If she would only have courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favorite book, or in a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents." -Charlotte Mason

In case you were curious...

I stumbled upon these interesting, and also very random baby facts!

* A baby is born every seven seconds.

* Babies are born with very poor vision but can recognize their mothers
almost right away.

* Babies are always born with blue eyes, within a few moments of delivery
their eye color can change.

* Babies are born with swimming abilities and can naturally hold their
breath. However, they shortly lose this instinct.

* Newborns usually double their weight by six months.

* Playing classical music really will increase a babys intelligence.

* Reading to your child at ANY age will increase their knowledge.

* Babies and toddlers are, pound for pound, stronger than oxen. This is
especially true of their legs.

* Babies are born without kneecaps.

*Men are officially the best at changing diapers! Research shows that the average time taken by a woman to change baby is 2 minutes and 5 seconds, whereas the average man takes 1 minute and 36 seconds... so make your man change some diapers!

*One in five toddlers can open medicine and chemical bottles with child-resistant tops. Yet, i have a tough time getting those bad boys open...go figure!

*Is your babe righty or a lefty? Researchers say It’s decided as early as 10 weeks gestation. They've found that babies in the womb actually favor one hand over the other, the same one they’ll prefer to use in life.

...and also just because it is entertaining...human facts:

eight-hour one.

Mommy Brain.

Its for real. No, im not talking about locking your keys in the car, misplacing your phone, searching the wrong side of the parking lot for your vehicle and blaming it on your failing mommy memory. (All of which i have done....in the last week. Dont judge me.) I'm talking about those mommy brains of ours actually growing, and physically changing in response to having a baby! Pretty Sweet.

According to a new study published in the journal Behavioral Neuroscience last month, researchers scanned the brains of new moms and found that key areas of the brain involved in reasoning, judgment, emotion and sensory integration actually grew in volume in the months after having a baby!
First, the area of the brain responsible for emotion physically changes to make us more empathetic and emotional individuals. As a pre-baby someone who didn't bat an eye watching Titanic, to that girl that cant make it through a TLC show without tears I totally believe it!
And not surprisingly, as mothers our nervous system is oriented towards attachment and bonding with our babies. In research, when a mom is shown a picture of her baby, the emotional area of the brain become super active. That means we're wired not just to detect, but also feel our baby's cues and emotions — we don't just read our baby's signs of distress or joy, they actually emotionally resonate in us.
Our brain also turns into a reward center, boosting our mood with chemicals that make us feel happy when we interact with and respond to our baby. Its no wonder we love making our babies laugh, smile and coo...we're getting high on baby love! And its not just for playtime, but any time we are taking care of our baby we are getting a shot of mood enhancing chemicals. The body continues in the respond-reward cycle, until we are literally addicted to parenting... and to our baby. It's not just our biology that changes after we give birth; the experience of being a mom actually reprograms us. How sweet is that?!

Moms, we are amazing.

Welcome!

So were moms. And as such, that makes us experts in all things baby right? Yeah...maybe not. Well, the fabulous idea came up as a part of our ward compassionate service to have a place where mom's can go to get tips, random baby tidbits, and weekly inspirations- blog form. And TA-DA, baby talk was born. (no pun intended.)

I'm Heidi. I'll be mostly in charge of this blogging project, and I'd love to hear your comments and ideas.

So check back often and learn, laugh, and be inspired with us!

Peace and love! :D
